KCSTI 2018 Days 1-3

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

KCSTI 2018 is in full swing and our participants have already experienced all three!

On Monday participants and staff got to know each other through ice breakers such as “2 truths and 1 lie”. Dean Truman stopped by to talk about careers in the Engineering College at UMKC followed by a presentation from Sharon Tagel of MoDOT on careers in the transportation field. Participants then learned about the various group projects they will work on during the course of the camp. Highway safety, bridge building, concrete mixing, and drone use and safety.

On Tuesday participants toured General Motors were we learned all about the engineering and manufacturing of cars. We ended the day with some recreation time at UMKC’s Swinney Recreation Center.

Wednesday was all about simulations. We began the day at Garmin where we learned about the possible applications of GPS and participants got to try the flight simulator! We then went to BNSF where participants also got to try the train simulator and a crain simulator before being shown the engines of the locomotives.
